Heart disease is the number one health problem for women. The Heart Truth Campaign is raising awareness of women’s heart health with events such as the Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection Fashion Show. Heidi Klum has been tapped as the spokesperson of The Heart Truth campaign for the second year in a row.

According to a press statement released by Coca-Cola North America, Diet Coke has played an integral role in consumers’ lives for more than 25 years. Heidi Klum’s star power helped The Heart Truth message reached millions of women last year.

The Heart Truth initiative is a national effort sponsored by the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLB). The campaign is designed to educate women about the risks of heart disease. As part of the campaign, Diet Coke will sponsor the Heart Truth’s Red Dress Collection fashion show on February 13 at Fashion Week 2009.

Red Dress Charm

Heidi Klum has designed a Diet Coke Red Dress Charm, inspired by the Red Dress symbol. In order to remind women that is time to get educated about heart disease, the diamond and ruby encrusted charm is shaped like an hourglass. Klum will wear the Diet Coke Red Dress Charm on the Red Carpet at the Academy Awards to help raise awareness for women’s heart health.

Enter to win a limited edition version of the charm on the Diet Coke website.

A special 5th Anniversary Edition Red Dress Pin in Swarovski crystals is available on the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute website for $12.50 plus shipping.

Tips for Heart Health

The National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute offers some hearth heath tips on their website, as part of their educational effort.

  • Do not smoke. Women who smoke are two to six times more likely to suffer a heart attack than non-smokers. Smoking also increases risk of stroke and cancer.
  • Aim for healthy weight
  • Get moving and make a commitment to being more physically active.
  • Eat a heart healthy diet, which is low in fat and includes plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Know health numbers, including blood pressure, cholesterol and blood glucose. Talk to a doctor about improving any numbers that are not normal.
